New residence hall security frustrates student
By LETTER WRITER

The NIU administration needs to look around campus and re-evaluate some of the decisions made in the previous weeks. This “increased security” is such a waste of not only financial resources, but everyone’s time as well.

Where is the threat?

Is there even one reason as to why this enhanced security is presently on campus?

Some of these choices made after Feb. 14 were extremely poor, such as locking all dorm building doors. But hey, thanks for making my walk from my Stevenson class to the Art Building (since my Cole Hall class was relocated there) all that much longer, seeing as how I can’t shortcut through Douglas [Hall] like I used to be able to, so now I’m 15 minutes late for class everyday from no fault of my own.

The only reason I can see as to why we have more security is so the parents back home can sleep safe knowing that their babies are secure in the hands of this new crack team of police ... err ... men in blue shirts.

Maybe it’s just me, but I just can’t see any reason to have an increase in security, seeing as how NIU was the victim of a one-time crisis.

I just don’t think it will happen again anytime soon. And if it were to happen (God forbid), somehow I imagine that the locked doors at Grant wouldn’t have prevented it.
