Fans of MTV’s Wild ‘N Out are in for a night of laughter when NIU hosts its own version of the team-based improv comedy show tonight.

The event is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, and will take place in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium at 8:00 p.m. free of charge.

A red and black team, composed of four NIU students each, will go head-to-head for the audience’s laughs. Each team tries to earn the most points in order to win the comedy competition.

The event will be hosted by Arvin Mitchell, a stand-up comedian who has performed on BET and Comedy Central, and feature music by DJ Dan.

“The show will consist of various games chosen at random by the host,” said Amber Martin, assistant vice president of fine arts of CAB and black team member. “If the host and the audience find a team’s improv funny during a game, then the team will earn a point.”

One of the games is called “World’s Worst,” a game that pits teams against each other to act like the worst of a subject the host determines on the spot.

“For example, the host will yell out ‘world’s worst secretary,’ and the teams will compete to have the funniest impersonation of the world’s worst secretary,” Martin said.

Other games include, “Who’s Trying to Get Into the Club?,” “Audience Look-Alikes” and “Hate Date.”

The event will help fund the Feb. 14 Student Scholarship Fund by accepting donations at the door.
Jay Sims, a freshman fine arts major and red team member, wants NIU to be able to laugh again after the Feb. 14 tragedy.

“Laughter is healing for the soul,” Sims said. “If you come to Wild ‘N Out, you know you’re going to laugh.”

Those interested in attending NIU’s Wild ‘N Out are encouraged by Sims and Martin to come with an open mind so they are not offended by the show’s content.
