On his new album, “Troubadour,” Strait keeps things straight, simple and in line with his honky-tonk, southern-pride sound. Refusing to sell out to rock or pop influences, Strait uses his sweet accent and cowboy charm to offer another relaxed, traditional album.

“There’s so much to see and do when you’re in love,” sings Strait on the track, “When You’re in Love.” Strait tells it like it is with a gentle voice, and real country instrumentals.

Strait may not be as young as he once was, but he still is great at what he does. Sometimes younger is not always better. With years of experience behind him, Strait is able to comprise this album that speaks to people about matters of the heart, as well as day to day life. He comes across as a wise father singing to a child in his confessional song “Troubadour.”

The entire album proves that all Strait really needs is a guitar to create the perfect album. Strait continues to push artists like Toby Keith and Brooks and Dunn out of his league and remains at the top pedestal of country music. All 12 tracks are worth listening to, especially for anyone who still cares about the genre’s true heart.
