Suspect charged with connection to several car burglaries
By ALAN EDRINN

DeKALB | A DeKalb man is charged with possession of a vehicle that was thought to be stolen in connection to a series of car burglaries and damages throughout DeKalb Sunday night.

At 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, a vehicle that was reported stolen Sunday night in the 300 block of Greenwood Acres Drive was involved in an accident in the 3100 block of North First Street. The driver, Michael Mancuso III, 18, of DeKalb, then left the scene on foot and was arrested about a quarter mile away, said Lt. Gary Spangler of the DeKalb Police Department.

Mancuso is charged with unlawful possession of a converted vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle. He has not been charged with any of the car burglaries or damages, Spangler said, and it is unknown at this time if the stolen car is connected to the other vehicle crimes in the area.

“The proximity of the burglaries to the stolen car are close enough to where we are trying to connect the cases,” Spangler said.

Sometime Sunday night, a total of seven vehicles were burglarized and five were trespassed into between the 100 and 200 block of Hollister Avenue.

Nine vehicles also had windows broken throughout the city overnight, in addition to the stolen car in the 300 block of Greenwood Acres Drive. All vehicles that were burglarized and trespassed into were unlocked when they were entered.
