Relay for life event was 'disappointing' this year

As a Relay participant this year and former Relay committee member in years past, I am disappointed in this year’s Relay For Life event. The event was moved to the Convocation Center from the Campus Recreation Center to provide more space.

However, the only extra space provided seemed to be in the parking lot, while the campsite area was completely crowded. I frequently saw people walking through other campsites, stepping on posters, blankets and pillows. There was very little space to move around other than the track, which was nowhere near the campsites. This prevented participants to view others’ sites and participate in at-event-fundraising activities (a large fundraising source) while walking on the track.

There was also much less room for entertainment activities as well as room to play with a football or Frisbee without coming close to hitting a group of walkers. At least the Rec had room to play basketball and other activities without getting in the way of the walkers. Altogether, with the exception of raising a large sum of money for cancer research and care, I feel the actual event was unsuccessful and disappointing.
