The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Jeff Compher, senior associate athletic director at the University of Washington, will be named athletic director at NIU.

NIU will officially introduce the new AD at a Chicago news conference at 11 a.m., followed by another news conference at 3 p.m. in DeKalb.

At Washington, Compher oversaw the day-to-day operations of the athletic department. His duties were primarily oriented on football and men’s and women’s basketball.

Prior to his tenure at Washington, Compher was the athletic director at Western Carolina. In four years, Compher increased the overall operating budget by 42 percent.

Also, Western Carolina was able to spend nearly $15 million to build and renovate its facilities under Compher.

The new AD will replace former NIU AD Jim Phillips. Phillips left NIU to take the same position with Northwestern University. Phillips started his new job earlier this week.
