Despite two close losses, the NIU men’s tennis team is ready to look ahead to its next goal: Finish the MAC season strong.

“We need to continue to play aggressively,” NIU coach Pontus Hiort said. “We just need to take advantage of the close situations.”

The Huskies fell 4-3 to Toledo on Sunday, marking the second straight one-point loss for NIU. The last match saw NIU’s Alex Friesen and Jimmy Chu’s doubles winning streak snapped. Following the close defeats, NIU (8-9 overall, 1-3 MAC) is looking forward to today's home match–up with conference opponent Chicago State.

“It is nice to have a winning streak, but now they have to pick up the pieces,” Hiort said. “If anything, they will be more motivated now.”

NIU junior Brian Livingston will be looking to push his winning streak at No. 1 singles to 13 straight.

Women’s tennis

The NIU women’s tennis team will be looking for its first win in nearly a month, as it takes the court today against Chicago State.

The Huskies last win came against Akron on March 22 in a 4-3 decision.

NIU will be looking for seniors Dora Delgadillo and Jenny Edner to help place the Huskies on the board in the next match, which will be at home.
