The U at DeKalb to hold grand opening Halloween in Spring party
By AMANDA PODGORNY

Break out the Halloween costumes.

The U at DeKalb, 1000 W. Lincoln Highway, is having a grand opening celebration titled “Halloween in Spring” on Saturday.

“It sounds fun,” said junior elementary education major Kristin Beall. “I like Halloween, so it is a different atmosphere for spring.”

A costume contest will be the main event of the evening, and the grand prize is a trip for four to Las Vegas, said owner Tony Tomkiewicz.

“There’s going to be a lot of smaller giveaways,” Tomkiewicz said.

The smaller prizes such as free VIP parties and prizes from the distributors will be given to the winners from each costume category.

The judging will take place in two rounds and votes will be by applause.

“You are going to want to be there by 10:30 p.m. or 11 p.m. if you want to be in the contest,” Tomkiewicz said.

There will be a reduced cover for those in costume.

“Obviously we are going to give preference to the people in costume,” Tomkiewicz said.
Junior English major Jeff Geronimo is looking forward to the celebration.

“I’ve got a costume I bought last year that I was planning on wearing for this year’s Halloween,” Geronimo said. “It looks like I just may be able to wear it early in the spring now.”
