Spring Fling week offers students many activites

This week at NIU marks Spring Fling Week, a week of activities and events as planned by the Campus Activities Board.

Spring Fling Week starts today and continues through Saturday. There is no cost for any of the events, but donations for the February 14 Memorial Fund will be accepted at all of the events.

This year, a Hawaiian theme has been organized for Spring Fling, so free leis will be given throughout the week.

Spring Fling week starts off with “Monkey Monday” in Central Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students will be able to engage in physical activities like bungee runs, gladiator jousts and human spheres. If there is a chance of rain, the event will be moved to the Regency Room in the Holmes Student Center.

Tuesday will be an evening at the Family Fun Center in Sycamore from 6-8 p.m. where there will be batting cages, miniature golf, a driving range and go-carts. Free transportation will be provided from the Campus Life Building at 5:30 p.m. for the first 50 people. In the case of rain, the event will be rescheduled.

Spring Fling schedule
Monday – “Monkey Monday”
Location: Central Park (Rain location: Regency Room)
Time: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Activities: Bungee Run, Gladiator Joust, Human Spheres, music from DJ Dan

Tuesday – “Family Fun Center”
Location: Family Fun Center in Sycamore (Will be rescheduled if it rains)
Time: 6 – 8 p.m.
Free transportation from Campus Life Building for first 50 people at 5:30 p.m.
Activities: Batting cages, miniature golf, driving range, go-carts, soccer kicking cages

Wednesday – “Think Green”
Location: Carl Sandburg Auditorium, HSC
Time: 7 p.m.
Activities: Environmental speaker, Rochelle Begley from HGTV

Thursday – “Hypnotist”
Location: Carl Sandburg Auditorium, HSC
Time: 7 p.m., Come early!
Activities: Hypnotist Fred Winters performs

Friday – “Funkadelic Friday”
Location: Central Park (Rain Location: Diversions Lounge, HSC)
Time: 7 p.m.
Activities: Karaoke Night

Saturday – “Luau”
Location: Central Park (Rain Location: Chick Evans Field House)
Time: Noon – 5 p.m.
Activities: Free food, inflatables, pineapple eating contest, potato sack races, limbo contest, hula hoop contest, crafts, music
-First 30 women receive a free hula skirt and coconut bra
-First 36 men will receive a free beachcomber hat
Wednesday will take a break from the physical activities for students to “Think Green.” Environmental speaker Rochelle Begley will speak in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium at the HSC at 7 p.m.

Thursday, hypnotist Fred Winters will put on a show in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium at 7 p.m. It is advised to arrive early.

Friday is “Funkadelic Friday” where students can display their vocal talents at a karaoke night in Central Park at 7 p.m. The Diversions Lounge in the HSC will hold it in the event of rain.
Wrapping up Spring Fling Week on Saturday will be a luau in Central Park from noon to 5 p.m. There will be free food, music, a pineapple eating contest, potato sack races, a limbo contest and a hula hoop contest.

Giveaways will also be part of the event in which the first 30 women will receive a free hula skirt and coconut bra, while the first 36 men will receive a beachcomber hat. In case of rain, the luau will be held in the Chick Evans Field House.
