First-responders not noted by UP presentation
By LETTER WRITER

I was disturbed by the portrayal by NIU Police Lts. Darren Mitchell and Todd Henert in their Oklahoma presentation last week that NIU Police almost single-handedly responded to the Feb. 14 tragedy. NIU Police responded quickly and professionally and should be commended.

What the presentation in Oklahoma did not include is the immediate response to crisis from all of our area first-responders – police and fire departments in our municipalities and county and in our region. I watched the response on TV — I saw local and regional professional response. Their presentation hopefully forgot to include mention of the effectively coordinated efforts of all the first responders.
