I became ‘embroiled’ in the same classroom debate on health care referenced in Richard Snowden’s letter “Paying for public health care is a moral choice.” Interestingly, his letter failed to note that when other students disagreed with his opinion, he began to level personal attacks and eventually stormed from the room, stating “I can’t continue to have this conversation.”
With any controversial issue, people must be able to respect differing opinions if any solution is to be reached. I thought my fellow students would be able to conduct themselves in a reasonably respectful manner. However, Snowden’s child-like actions proved me wrong.
I know that Snowden is not a reflection of the NIU student body as a whole and I hope that in my time here I will not meet more students that lack the basic dignity and respect needed to hold a civil debate.
This statement is intended for Richard Snowden:
We have all had the respect to listen to your sanctimonious, condescending and long-winded speeches throughout the semester.
However, you made it abundantly clear that you don’t have any respect for your fellow students or their opinions, and I hope the rest of our class reacts accordingly.
