Student group S.I.S.T.E.R.S. is hosting Seven Days of S.I.S.T.E.R.hood this week.

The group name is an acronym which stands for Sisters Interacting Soulfully Through Thoughts Emotions and Realisms to Attain Self Awareness.

Public relations chairwoman, Chanell Poindexter, said S.I.S.T.E.R.S. has been hosting the event, which consists of a variety of events and programs, for three years.

The week started off with a community service project by taking part in NIU Cares Day.

Fundraisers were also held throughout the week. On Wednesday, the group hosted the Taste of NIU in Stevenson and will host a karaoke night from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium. The group will also co-host an event with B.R.O.T.H.E.R.S. called “Clash of the Titans.” Poindexter said the organizations will compete in dancing, rapping and stepping. All events are free to attend.

S.I.S.T.E.R.S. has been an established group since 1975. Poindexter said it is an all female-based organization that hosts at least one program a month.

“We’re an organization that is often imitated but never duplicated,” Poindexter said.
