Student center hosts model U.N.
By JOHN RANALLO

This Saturday, the Holmes Student Center’s Illinois Room will host a student group that models the United Nations.

The meeting will host 30 students representing the countries in the U.N., as well as a faculty adviser, among others. Students in the group travel to conferences and simulate real U.N. policy. This Saturday’s mini-conference will include a debate over nuclear proliferation and current relations with Iran.

Andrea Radasanu, assistant professor of political science, believes students can learn a great deal from the Model U.N. Club.

“There are a lot of good opportunities for students that want to do it,” Radasanu said, “Its a real learning experience.”

Radasanu said students try to formulate resolutions, and sometimes those solutions are examined by government officials. She recommends the club to any student with a deep interest in international politics, or even those who may consider themselves novices.

Radasanu said that the club serves the community and students alike.

“It’s been a real community-building activity,” Radasanu said. “We’re hosting the event - running it and participating in it.”

Elliot Rothrock, senior political science major, believes the event will be worth the experience.

“It’s an excellent opportunity to expose yourself to other parts of the world you wouldn’t know about otherwise,” he said.
