Wrestling coach Dave Grant signs three-year contract extension
By STEVE NITZ

Robert Collins, NIU interim athletics director, announced Wednesday that Dave Grant, NIU head wrestling coach, has agreed to a three-year contract extension through the 2010-2011 season.

Grant has been at the helm of the NIU wrestling program since 1996 and has a career record of 108-82-6. His 108 wins are the second-highest in school history for wrestling.

Grant has coached 18 MAC champions and six All-Americans during his tenure at NIU.

“It’s just one step at a time,” Grant said. “Obviously, when we came in, we had a lot of work to do.”

The future looks bright for the Huskies, who return most of their lineup next season. 2008 also marks the opening of a new wrestling room for the team. All this has Grant looking forward to his coming years at NIU.

“Just with the freshmen, just the promising outlook of this team,” Grant said. “For 12 years, I’ve been working hard to get a wrestling room and next year, we’re gonna get a brand new one.”
