A criminal sexual assault was reported in the early morning hours Sept. 3 at the Northern View Community.

University Police have not released further information on the alleged crime, as the investigation is pending. Investigation is also pending on an alleged criminal sexual assault in Grant South reported Sept. 1.

A domestic battery was reported at 8 a.m. on Sept. 1 in Grant North. Officers were called to the residence hall lobby when bystanders witnessed a verbal argument between two people, said Lt. Curtis Young of the UP.

When officers arrived, the man said he had been slapped by the female in a dorm room earlier. The man refused medical attention and chose not to press charges.

The offender has been referred to the NIU Judicial Affairs for unacceptable behavior, Young said.

In a separate incident, Mark G. Walters, 19, of DeKalb was arrested the morning of Sept. 1 on charges of obstructing justice, possession of cannabis 30 grams and under and possession of drug equipment.

Walters was traveling in his vehicle near Annie Glidden Road and Lucinda Avenue when he turned left at an intersection from the right turn lane, Young said.

After initiating a traffic stop, the officer asked Walters to exit the vehicle on suspicion that he may have been driving under the influence of a substance.

Walters refused to cooperate and was taken into custody, where he was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Young said.
Walters was processed at the UP and released on $100 bond.
