Combining a love for sports and business, John Work finds his vision for a dream job as sports agent or a lawyer for the Chicago Cubs.

Work, a junior history major, said if the agent job does not come to fruition, he would be fine practicing law in Chicago.

“I want to be an agent because I love the sports side of business,” Work said. “I want to practice law because I know a bunch of people in the field, so I’m familiar with [it].”

Work is currently employed at the law firm Smith Tucker Coghlan & Smith, LLC, in Sycamore.
“Technically, I’m an intern,” Work said. “I file stuff in court and do the normal things a clerk would do. Basically a bunch of administrative mumbo-jumbo.”

Work found out about the job through his dad, who had previously done business with the firm.
“I didn’t have a job and was trying to get my resume ready for law school,” Work said. “I just looked around and found someone who was looking for interns.”

Along with the firm, Work is also employed part-time at his dad’s business, Pinnacle Construction & Development, in Cortland.

After working with the business, Work said he is interested in practicing real estate law after he finishes law school.

“I plan on having my own firm or agency once I get rolling after law school,” Work said. “I’ll probably get into real estate law and then everything else. My dad has been in real estate since I was an infant, so I’ve been around it for awhile.”
