Garage fire causes $2,500 in damage
By ALAN EDRINN

A pile of burning yard waste caused an unattached garage fire Thursday night at 1440 E. Lincoln Highway.

The DeKalb Fire Department responded to the fire at 5:54 p.m. and had the fire under control in about 10 minutes, said Assistant Fire Chief Bruce Harrison.

The garage, which had a camper with gas tanks in it, was engulfed in flames. The fire department contained the fire to the garage, which caused an estimated $2,500 in damage to the trailer and the garage, Harrison said.

The fire, which was ruled accidental, was caused by wind blowing a pile of burning brush into the garage, Harrison said. The gas tanks inside the camper vented but did not cause damage.

“In essence, what could have been a big fire was contained,” Harrison said.
