Fraternities set to begin fall recruitment
By NATE RAKOCZY

Fraternity recruitment is underway on campus.

The 13 members of the Interfraternity Council are currently looking for interested males to join their chapters.

Fraternity recruitment is a year-round informal process, in that there is no informational meeting or formal recruiting weekend like sororities offered this past weekend.

Interested students are encouraged to attend recruiting events that fraternity chapters offer throughout the academic year.

These events are social gatherings that range from cookouts to sporting events, helping to give recruits a better understanding of the individual chapter and Greek life as a whole, according to the Greek Affairs Web site.

Freshman Michael Best has not decided whether going Greek is right for him. However, he is currently exploring his options.

“Joining a frat is something I’m interested in, but I’m going to see what the campus offers first,” Best said. “I don’t want to commit to anything first semester.”

Derek Slater, sophomore health administration major and Phi Sigma Kappa member, advises interested students to explore every house on Greek Row.

“They should visit every house on campus to find the best place that suits them,” said Slater.

Students interested in joining a fraternity are encouraged to complete a recruiting registration form that can be found under the Greek Affairs section of NIU’s Web site.
