Hearings for five DeKalb establishments that allegedly sold tobacco to minors will take place Friday.

The hearings will determine fines and punishments for failed Nov. 11 compliance checks for Super Pantry #27, 1102 N. First St.; and 7-Eleven Food Store, 930 Annie Glidden Road; as well as charges of failed Jan. 16 checks for La Salsa Market, 1011 W. Hillcrest Drive; DeKalb Mobil, 2400 Sycamore Road; and Bockman’s Auto Care, 705 E. Lincoln Highway.

According to the DeKalb Municipal Code, a licensee giving, selling or distributing cigarettes or other tobacco products to a minor is a violation of 11.07(e)(1).

City Attorney Norma J. Guess said most, if not all, establishments had prior violations in the last year.

Prior violations may influence the fines and punishments placed on the establishment.

“Fines and punishment vary on their history,” Guess said.

The establishments could face having their tobacco license permanently revoked.

Other punishments could be up to a $1,000 fine or having their tobacco license suspended a maximum of 90 days, Guess said.

Hearings will take place at 10 a.m. in Small Conference Room 201 of the DeKalb Municipal Building, 200 S. Fourth St.
