A 35-year-old Iowa man is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault for allegedly sexually abusing a minor approximately four years ago.
Wednesday, police arrested Miguel Sangabriel, 35, of Clarence, Iowa, after the victim reported being sexually abused by Sangabriel four years ago.
On April 27, the victim reported she was sexually assaulted by Sangabriel while he was living in the same household as the victim during a one-year period, according to a DeKalb Police Department press release.
Sangabriel had previously befriended the victim’s parents and was allowed to live in the residence, said Lt. Gary Spangler of the DeKalb Police Department. Sangabriel and the victim are not related, and the victim was considerably younger than 17, Spangler said.
On Wednesday, an investigator from the DeKalb Police Department went to Clarence and interviewed Sangabriel. After the interview, police obtained a warrant and arrested Sangabriel. He is charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X Felony.
Sangabriel is being held on $500,000 bond at Cedar County Jail in Tipton, Iowa, and will be extradited to DeKalb County in the near future, according to the release.
“It is quite common for these cases to be reported months, if not years later, and there are various reasons for that,” Spangler said. “A lot of times, the victims will disclose to friends or parents, and that usually gets the ball rolling.”
