Second ward alderman Povlsen named acting mayor

Kris Povlsen, 2nd ward alderman for the city of DeKalb, was named acting mayor by a 6-0 vote at Monday night's city council meeting.

Povlsen will resign from his alderman post, which must be filled within 60 days.

He will remain the city's mayor until the next election, in May 2009. Povlsen will have full powers of the position, including the power to veto a decision made by the council.
