City sticker proposal ruled out to fund new police station
City stickers will not be making an appearance on DeKalb vehicles just yet.
DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen said the idea was proposed to increase funds for DeKalb’s new police station, and it appears that the City Council has taken that proposal off the board.
“Vehicle stickers were ruled out because basically the only people who would be paying are the permanent residents,” Feithen said. “It wouldn’t capture anything from visitors.”
He said a possible increase in taxes on restaurants, sales tax and utility fees are all a possibility and the city didn’t want to put more of a burden on its residents.
Feithen said a committee has been set up for the police station project.
The committee will be meeting at the first City Council meeting in September at the Committee of the Whole Meeting to discuss funding.
