Strumming guitars and progressive drum beats is what one will hear from the DeKalb rock band Saved Alone.

The local band consists of NIU student Drew Creal (guitar/vocals), along with Mike Himes (guitar/vocals) and Kyle Douglas (bass/vocals).

“Our music is definitely a heavier form of rock with a hint of metal, though we are really passionate about three-part vocal harmonies, down-tuned distorted bass and ambient guitar solo sections,” Creal said.

Saved Alone has played numerous shows throughout DeKalb, most recently at The House Café, 263 East Lincoln Highway on Aug. 30.

“We’ve played every possible venue in DeKalb from Java 101, Otto’s and various frat houses. We’ve released two different demos, and done heavier versions of tunes by the Beatles, [Bruce] Springsteen and The Police,” Creal added.

Saved Alone has been performing for more than two years throughout northern Illinois.

“It all started when I went to church at The Salvation Army my freshman year at NIU and I met drummer Mike Himes,” Creal said. “I played him some songs I had been writing at the time and he was definitely interested in starting something. We ended up having a couple guys leave the group and ever since then our goal has been to push the limits of what three people can physically do with just guitar, bass, drums and our voices.”

The trio believes in the music they create, and will accept nothing less than the absolute best.

“Our music is designed to make connections with people both spiritually and relationally, and it’s our primary goal,” said Creal.
