Late Mitch Hedberg releases potentially last album

By JEN HANCE

The late comedian Mitch Hedberg, who died in 2005, was known for his hilarious one-liners and unique delivery of jokes. His interesting way of annunciating his jokes, his quick thinking and sarcastic stage presence set him apart from other comedians.

In his first post-humorous release “Do You Believe in Gosh?” fans get a chance to hear the beloved Mitch one more time as he toured improv clubs in the months before his death.

Much like in his other two albums “Strategic Grill Locations” and “Mitch All Together,” Hedberg uses his distinctive observations of everyday objects to make his audience laugh.

“I’m sick of soup of the day,” Hedberg says in his laid back manner. “It’s time we make a decision. I wanna know what the soup from now on is.”

However, unlike his other albums, this one comes across more unpolished than the fast-paced “Mitch All Together.”

This album gives listeners a taste of what Mitch was like as a performer, as he dealt with hecklers in the crowd and tested his new jokes. His interactions with the crowd prove to be just as funny as some of his jokes.

When one heckler shouts that he has something to put in his tobacco pipe, Hedberg quickly shoots back, “Oh I bet you do! Only don’t think about the fact that there might be police around!”
It was clear that many of the jokes on this new album were a work in progress, as the comedian quickly followed them up with, “Do you get that, because I don’t?”

Nevertheless, the album is bittersweet. Though fans are given another glimpse at this one-of-a-kind comedian, it is likely the last album. Whether it be talking about his ant farm (“...if you rip off their heads, they look like snowmen”), clothing (“I’ve got a vest; if I had my arms cut off it would be a jacket”) or teaching his audience valuable lessons (the “buoyancy of citrus”), his quick jokes and silly humor will live on forever.

R.I.P. Mitch.

"Annunciating"? "Post-humorous"? Seriously, who proofreads this stuff??
