Cavits' Pinot Grigio keeps taste buds happy

Wine: Cavits’ Pinot Grigio 2007

I like my wines to have purpose.

Either I dig a dark, sassy merlot or a light, tart pinot grigio. With anything else, my taste buds send cringes through my body in protest. I like to keep them happy, and Cavit does that.

Cavits’ pinot grigio is tart and on the dry side without drying out the mouth or throat. Hints of white grape serve as the foundation while a refreshing coolness fills out the taste. If you’re sleepy, it’ll give you a kick, saying “Hey! I got taste! Look at me!” This drink isn’t sweet by any means; if you enjoy German Rieslings, you’ve bought the wrong bottle.

This pinot grigio is easily accessible for those not quite sure what wine they like, without boasting a pretentious price tag.

While I enjoy the tart, almost sour taste, if you’re a wine drinker who likes more than one or two glasses a sitting, pass on this. If you’re looking for your drink of the night and don’t want to sip it, forget this one. The taste is full for a white wine, and you can have too much of this good thing.

If you want to try something new and foreign, pick up a bottle of seltzer water with this. In many parts of Germany, a wineschorle is a favorite afternoon drink: Mix equal parts wine with seltzer water and stir. For best results, make sure both are as chilly as possible.

Cavits Pinot Grigio 2007 is generally available for $8.99.
