Ransey Vazquez has big plans for DeKalb’s nightlife.

Owner of Detox Nightclub, 1000 W. Lincoln Highway, Vazquez plans to bring students an affordable nightspot with big entertainment.

With 16 different beers on draft and numerous types of hard liquor, Vazquez hopes to give students a VIP feel at an affordable price.

“We’re definitely going to bring some entertainment that this town hasn’t seen,” Vazquez said.
Vazquez said he realizes DeKalb is a college town and knows what it is like to live on a budget.

“I will welcome all students,” Vazquez said. “And it’s definitely going to be affordable.”

Vazquez plans to have big name acts come to Detox. “I want to give students an option,” Vazquez said. He also hopes this will give students a reason to stay in DeKalb instead of going elsewhere.

In the past, Carly Wolter, a senior psychology major and commuting student, has had to go to other cities to find something to do. “I think that’d be really cool,” Wolter said. “I’d go if the prices were reasonable and there were big name acts.”

Larry Pruitt, a senior early childhood education major, said he also goes outside of DeKalb to party but may reconsider. “I’ll probably go there to watch the game on the big screen,” Pruitt said.

This Thursday, Detox will be having a soft opening, i.e. a meet and greet, from 7 to 9 p.m. “Everyone is invited,” Vazquez said. “It’s a meet and greet to meet the new staff and the new owner.”

DJ Dan Morrell will be the entertainment for the evening, and there will be no cover charge all night.

The grand opening for Detox is set for sometime in early October.

“By the end of October, we’ll fully be where Detox is going to be,” Vazquez said.



THIS WEEKEND:
Detox will be open 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18 through Saturday, Sept. 20 for the soft opening. No cover charge is required all weekend, all night.
