'Sixx AM:' Horrible music for a horrible book
By Tony Martin

Rating: .1/10

An open letter to music as a whole: Hi, it’s me, Tony Martin. Music, I know we’ve had some arguments in the past, but I usually find some way to get over it and accept you back into my life. However, music, we need to talk.

It’s about the album by “Sixx AM”, the soundtrack to Nikki Sixx’s book “The Heroin Diaries.”

My first issue is the idea of having a soundtrack to a book. Music for movies is OK, but now you’re working for books? Soon I’ll turn around and Timberland will be writing beats for Dell User Manuals.

The second issue is the Hunter S. Thompson rip-off that encompasses this piece of “art.” Not only is this title a cheap play on Mr. Thompsons’ “the Rum Diaries”, but the artwork is that of a second rate Ralph Steadman.

Scratches on a page don’t make anyone an artist. However, I didn’t know what to expect. I mean, Sixx was in Motley Crue, a band so terrible I wouldn’t hesitate to call them a disgrace to electric instruments.

The music itself is horrid and filled with terrible dialogue about heroin addiction. It was so bad that it could have been written by my 15-year-old sister if she pretended to be addicted to a deadly and non-inspiring drug. The songs are absolutely awful, and the lyrical content is laughable.

I can’t even begin to imagine how disappointing the book is if the songs are this dreadful. There are no redeeming qualities about this record, and I would never encourage anyone to listen to it, even for novelty’s sake. Still, I can’t give this album a 0/10, because that might imply that it doesn’t actually exist.

It does exist, and I regret the day I agreed to review this album. Nikki Sixx, you owe me 45 minutes of my life back. And Music, what happened to you?

Sorry You didnt enjoy the book, I for one loved it. Im a die hard Motley Crue/Nikki Sixx fan and think that he is so brave to release his memoirs regarding his addiction to the public. Im just glad that your opinion is not the norm.

Lets see, 25 million albums sold, pushing 50 yrs old STILL selling out major arenas....hmm...might want to look up the definition of "terrible" there buddy...its under "T" as in Tony. 50 yrs old still going strong, one of the best rock singles to come out in last 10 yrs with Life is Beautiful , incredible trio those three w/James' voice just amazing (I LOVE it), brilliant new idea; book + album FABULOUS & solely based on their own interpretations NOT promoters which never happens anymore these days. Book is intriguing , inspirational , and as dynamic as Nikki's intelligent , bold, creative and sensitive personality. All while giving back to help others. IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER. I would suggest working on getting the pulse of the people and not your own ego. Shame

I myself am a die hard Crue fan & consider Nikki Sixx to be one my heroes, even though he is just another man. He has the ambition I aspire to follow in my dreams & desires. No matter how much I love an artist, I will not say I love their art if I truly don't like the finished product. The Heroin Diaries however is phenomenal. SIXX A.M. is phenomenal. Open your mind, your heart, your eyes, & your ears & allow your soul to feel. The soundtrack combined with the book was an incredible idea & it magnifies the story of what is already a very intense read. Try again, Tony - you might learn something.

I can completely understand you saying that you do not appreciate Motley Crue music as the "hair metal" era wasn't liked by all. However, regardless, this album has NOTHING to do with the band or that era. Its about coping with addiction and to come out and share his personal experiences with people is an amazing accomplishment. This review doesn't suprise me in the least coming from this newspaper as even when I went to school at NIU all the good albums got completely trashed by "critics" like you. I'm not asking you to love the album or even like it for that matter, but to completely call it "trash" is totally disrespectful people who truely like real music in a day and age where real music is hard to find. Perhaps you'd be better off reviewing an album that is in the Top 40 and the same cookie cutter crap this country is so used to and brainwashed into listening to. I'm sure those are far superior albums that would truely hit home lyrically with someone of your musical knowledge.

You are a sad, ignorant man....this soundtrack and book are both masterpeices. They tell a story that could change the lives of millions!
