After reading the Sept. 17 issue of the Northern Star, I was appalled that columnist David Matz had picked Hanson as the number one most annoying band. Perhaps Matz is among the many people who think Hanson are still those long haired boys with high pitched voices.

I would like to inform Mr. Matz that Bono (maybe he’s heard of U2?) called Hanson’s music genius and that Rolling Stone magazine named Hanson’s “Middle of Nowhere” as one of its essential albums of the 90s.

For the past 11 years, Hanson has released eight more studio albums, toured around the world and most recently have helped out with various AIDS and poverty charities in Africa.

The band now has their own record label and consider themselves indie rock.

If anyone is interested in Hanson’s new music and philanthropy efforts, I would suggest checking out www.hanson.net.

Also, if Matz or any readers are up for hearing some great music, Hanson will be performing at The Rave in Milwaukee on Sept. 27, and at the Chicago House of Blues on Nov. 3 and 4. Yes, they’re still touring, and yes, they’ll play “MMMBop,” but in much deeper voices!
