Looking for an excuse to break out your spandex and poofy hair?

The Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St., hosted “Back to the ’80s” all weekend. Children’s Community Theatre puts on the musical, featuring actors ranging from middle school students to adults.

The three-hour long musical narrates the story of one man’s senior year of high school in the heart of the 1980s. The characters are easy to connect with, from the lovable Feargal McFerrin the Third to the clueless Alf Bueller.

The musical features classic ’80s hits like “Video Killed the Radio Star,” “Footloose” and “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”

The production is comparable to “Grease,” but with average high school students instead of a buff John Travolta. The storyline is not as predictable as other high school musicals, but the subplots are just as funny and quirky.

The cast provides the audience with a full-blown ’80s experience. The songs are performed brilliantly and with charisma. References to pop culture come quickly and are sure to strike a chord with many members of the audience. Bright colors, spandex and plenty of leggings to go around dominate the casts’ wardrobe and the hairstyles of the actors are in sync with the pictures we see in our parent’s yearbooks.

So, if you’re a product of the 1980s that never got to experience life back then, or if you’re a sucker for pop hits from that time, check out “Back to the ’80s.”

Pleather pants and cutoff crew neck sweatshirts aren’t mandatory, but add to the experience.
The show continues Sept. 26 and 27 at 7 p.m. and Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.
