A DeKalb man was arrested Friday after attempting to meet with a person who he allegedly believed to be a child with the intent of having sex.

Timothy J. Davis, 29, of DeKalb was arrested in a joint operation involving the Winfield Police Department and Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s Illinois Internet Crime Against Children Task Force.

The arrest occurred when Davis attempted to meet with a person he believed to be a child that he first met on the Internet, according to an Illinois attorney general press release.

Davis met the child in an online chat room and traveled to Winfield Park allegedly with the intent to have sex with the child, at which time he was arrested. The child was actually an undercover Winfield police detective.

Davis was charged with one count of indecent solicitation of a child, a class three felony punishable by a maximum of five years in prison, and one count of attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a class three felony punishable by a maximum of five years in prison.

Following the arrest, a search warrant was issued for Davis’ computers, in which three computers and other related media were seized. The attorney general’s high tech crime bureau will conduct a forensic search of the computers.

As of press time, the forensic search is still pending, said Scott Mulford, spokesperson for the attorney general.

Davis appeared in DuPage County bond court over the weekend where bond was set at $250,000. As of Tuesday Davis had not posted bond, Mulford said.
