DeKALB | Sunsea Shaw and Meghan Ginter once again led the Huskies cross country team at the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota, on Saturday.

The sophomore crossed the finish line with a time of 24:02, and was 116th out of the 222 runners.
Shaw was followed by senior Ginter, who finished 134th with a time of 24:38 and was the second Huskie to finish.
“To have Sunsea up there as a sophomore,” said NIU head coach Connie Teaberry, “it’s an inspiration for the young athletes on the team.”

As a team NIU finished 23rd, with the host Golden Gophers placing first. Minnesota had five of the top 11 runners.
Teaberry said the team will use an off week to prepare for its match at Bradley on Oct. 17, a perennial contender in cross country.

Other Huskie news:
• The NIU women’s tennis team received big performances from Lilian Asuaje and Kathryn Friedlund at the Ball State Invitational. Asuaje went 3-0 in flight A singles, defeating University of Wisonsin-Milwaukee’s Kari Kastenholz 6-4, 7-5. Friedlund mirrored her performance with 2-6, 6-4, 10-2 victory over Kylee Johnson of Ball State in flight B singles.

In flight C singles, freshmen Sarah McLaughlin and Emily Rogers went 3-0 and were set to meet in the finals but did not play because they are teammates.
The Huskies will play next on Oct. 10 in Kalamazoo, Mich., in the Western Michigan Invitational.
