Stop Iran Now!
This past Monday, I had the opportunity as NIU’s JCRC/Hillel Israel Initiative intern to attend a rally outside the United Nations in New York protesting against Iran’s President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad has repeatedly made threats against the United States, supports terrorist groups, calls for the destruction of Israel, denies the Holocaust, and ignores international demands to halt a nuclear program.
Former Soviet-prisoner-turned-Israeli-politician Natan Sharansky said there is a “moral clarity” in not allowing Iran to pursue nuclear weapons. A nuclear armed Iran would be a serious danger not just to Israel or the United States, but to all citizens of the world. We cannot allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons with a man like Ahmadinejad, who uses his political power for violence instead of peace, having his finger on the button.
Thousands of people from across the United States and Canada packed into the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza and came together to demand that the UN prevent a world calamity. We all have something to lose if the Islamic Republic of Iran gains nuclear weapons; it will affect everyone from DeKalb to Tokyo.
