This is a response to the opinion article that ran on Sept. 24, “Mac vs. PC”. Granted, it’s an opinion article so there would be a bit of bias. However, I could care less about whether the article was pro PC or Mac.
That being said, what I couldn’t stand was how the author had no idea about what she was talking about. Since when did you have to pay so much to support a PC for software? The school provides us with a free copy of McAfee antivirus, and if you don’t like McAfee AVG provides a free antivirus program. Also since when was spy ware a requirement for computers, Mac or PC, spy ware is something a user wants to avoid putting on their computer.
And why is it that a non-Mac computer has to run Windows. Yes, Windows might be the default OS for many new computers but Linux can also be used on these machines without the headaches that Windows might cause for some users.
It seems to me that the author did very little research or had absolutely no idea what they were writing about. I know it was just an opinion article but I still expect a decent quality of articles in the Star. The article had statements such as, “If you had a Mac computer, losing your data is not something to be concerned about.” yet never gives a reason why there was no reason to worry. Statements like these just made the article weak and made me wonder if this was an article on opinion or to just misinform.
I thought the article had some potential when I read the headline, I don’t know if it’s because of space constraints that parts got left out or if it was just written without a point to prevent guys like me send letters to the editors and nitpick over such things. The Star could have had a pretty interesting opinion article but just dropped the ball with this article.
