A driver stopping to make a call on Sunnymead Trail found his call cut short when an irate resident pointed a gun at him, police said.
About 10 p.m., the driver stopped to use his cell phone in the 1100 block of Sunnymead Trail when the suspect, Elias Perez, 33, of DeKalb, came out of his nearby residence and told the driver to move his car, said DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler. The driver then told Perez it was a public street and he was not moving his car. Perez went into his garage and came out with a handgun, put a round in the chamber, pointed it at the driver and told him to leave, Spangler said.
An acquaintance of Perez then came out and convinced him to go back inside and the driver left the area.
Police identified and searched the residence Perez came out of and found two hand guns and a shotgun. Perez was identified and arrested about 12:40 a.m. in a vehicle in the driveway of the residence, Spangler said.
Perez was charged with possession of ammunition without a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card, three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm without a FOID card. He was taken to DeKalb County Jail pending bond.
The victim was not injured, and stayed in the car while the gun was pointed at him, Spangler said.
