Four Kishwaukee College students were robbed Monday afternoon at University Plaza, 900 Crane Drive.
About 3:30 p.m., the suspect entered a room through an open door that was occupied by the four students, said DeKalb Police Lt. Gary Spangler. The suspect then implied he had a handgun and demanded property from the students before fleeing the scene. Spangler said no weapon was displayed, and declined to comment on what property was taken.
“We don’t have a solid witness saying they saw a weapon,” Spangler said. “He definitely made gestures with his hands like he was trying to conceal what was believed to be a handgun.”
Police are reviewing logs of who entered the building around the time of the robbery and are reviewing video surveillance from the complex, Spangler said.
According to the University Plaza Web site, there are cameras at all the entrances and exits of the building, and ID is required to access the elevators and the bottom stairwell doors.
The suspect is described as a black male, about 6-feet-tall and 20 years old. He was wearing blue jeans and a brown hoodie with a light brown and white design on the front.
