A three-car accident left cars stacked on top of each in the 2300 block of Sycamore Road on Tuesday, but no one was injured.

About 5 p.m., the a vehicle was moving southbound when the driver looked away for a moment and struck the second vehicle which was stopped for a vehicle in front of it, according to DeKalb Police reports. The second vehicle then bumped into a third vehicle in front of it.

Of the three cars involved, the first was stopped and waiting for the traffic light, the second may have stopped fast and the third car didn’t have time to stop, pushing the second into the first, coming to rest underneath the second car, said DeKalb Police Sergeant Jason Leverton at the scene Tuesday.

“I had no idea we were on top of her car,” said Samantha Stanevicius, driver of the second vehicle. “It all happened so fast; way too fast.”

The driver of the first vehicle, Jennifer L. Sturtevant, 19, of DeKalb, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Stanevicius reported leaking fluids, dust from air bags and smoke as she climbed down from her car which had come to rest on top of the third car in the collision.

The DeKalb Police and Fire departments responded to the scene and blocked the first southbound lane to cleanup the debris and remove the damaged cars.

“There happened to be two cars lined up in such a way where one ended up on top of the other,” Leverton said. “It was a little unusual.”
