Something wicked coming this way

By AMANDA PODGORNY

Something is haunting Jonamac Orchards.

Every year around this time, the corn maze becomes haunted; tonight - it starts.

The orchard, located in Malta, has much to offer for people of all ages including apple picking, pumpkin picking, a country store with homemade treats and a corn maze.

Kevin McArtor, co-owner of Jonamac Orchards believes that the corn maze gives them an edge.

“It’s a really great fit for us,” McArtor said. “We were the first ones around here to do anything like it.”

The maze is spread out on 10 acres of land with three miles of pathway, McArtor said.

“The correct path is one mile,” McArtor said.

The length does not turn students away from the maze.

“It was really long and that made it fun,” Bonnie Supica, senior elementary education major.
For $8, patrons can walk through the maze and experience 15 different “spooks.”

The “spooks” this year include scarecrows, a grave yard and a few basic props among other things.

“I went last October,” Supica said. “It was the best $8 I spent in a very long time.”

Katie Rios, sophomore special education major, does not mind spending the money.

“Eight dollars isn’t a bad price,” Rios said. ”Normally at haunted houses you pay like 15, or at least the ones I’ve been to and they sucked. So $8 is real good.”

The maze will run from dark until 10:30 p.m., running only on Friday and Saturdays and select Sundays until the end of October.
