'Very disappointed' with my favorite band's new album

I like change, but right now, I’m adverse to it.

So many new albums have come out recently, yet some fail to stay true to their old sound. As an alternative, progressive, garage and grunge rock fan, I tapped my foot anxiously for Kings of Leon’s fourth album, “Only By the Night” to be released.

I was so disappointed, however, I even forgot the name of the album just now. I had to page through my album collection to find the name.

I forgot the name of my favorite band’s newest album because I was so disappointed. Don’t get me wrong; I wasn’t upset with the guys. I completely understand and support growth of musicians as artists and exploring new territories. I like hearing new sounds and exploring new facets of old favorites.

However, when I look forward to the release of an album so much I stay up until midnight just to rip it off iTunes as soon as possible – yep, I did it – I want to hear my good ‘ol favorite Southern rock sound. While I consider myself a music fan, I’m almost embarrassed to admit that, for a fan, the songs just didn’t do it for me. Sure, “Sex on Fire” is driving, and Caleb’s vocals are perfectly tortured-sounding as ever. Sure, “Be Somebody” still has that gritty sound for which I love them.

I just wasn’t impressed, and I feel bad saying so.

There, that was my confessional.
