New potential CW show could lose viewers for the network

By KYLE SPENCER

“Smallville” has done wonders for CW’s ratings, but with it nearing its conclusion after eight popular seasons, a new “super hero” may be taking Clark Kent’s place.

For casual comic book readers, the name Dick “DJ” Grayson may not mean much, but perhaps you would know him better as Robin the Boy Wonder. He has always been Batman’s sidekick, but now he may have his chance at taking the lead.

According to Variety Magazine, the CW has recently decided to give the Grayson’s a shot with a pilot, but is anyone really going to care about the teenage years of a sidekick?

The show will follow the high flying acrobatic Grayson family, telling the story of Robin and his parents demise when their trapeze act was sabotaged. Robin would later use his killer tumbling and floor exercise routine to fight off villains alongside millionaire Bruce Wayne.

The problem with this idea is that the CW will be hard pressed to find anyone who actually cares about the childhood of one of comic books least favorite sidekicks. Robin may have worked for the old television show, but was kept out of the wildly popular new Batman film franchise simply because his character was too comical.

Is the CW trying to lose viewers? This show could never possibly compare to the popularity of Superman. And why would that be? Maybe because Superman hasn’t consistently been used for the butt of every joke in the comic book community.
