Professor Byron Anderson will be serving as interim dean of NIU Libraries as of Aug. 1.

He replaced Mary Munroe, who retired.

Anderson has spent his 22-year career with University Libraries, most recently holding the position of associate dean for public services. Prior to his job as an associate dean, Anderson supervised the library’s reference department for more than a decade.

In Anderson’s previous role as an associate dean, his responsibilities included the oversight of security, branch libraries, reference services, document delivery services, microforms and media services, and government publications.

Anderson is a native of DeKalb and holds a master’s degree in both history and library information science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

A search earlier this year for a permanent dean was unsuccessful. The university will begin a new search this fall, NIU Provost Ray Alden said.
