On Monday, NIU student group POSSE unveiled its Green Grill at the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. It is called Green Grill because most of the materials used to build it were recyclable. Faculty and staff were treated to the first food ever prepared on the grill.
The comments were overwhelmingly positive for those who participated in the unveiling and enjoyed the interactions between students and faculty. I think this activity was a good example of how interactions between faculty, staff and students can lead to a very positive outcome for all.
POSSE was developed through a collaborative effort between the Office of Retention Programs and the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology to enhance the minority graduation rate through active involvement in the college and group support. The organization began fall 2006 and its motto is ‘Don’t Do It Alone.’
POSSE would like to thank Inboden’s Meats, Ltd. and Wal-Mart for their food product contributions. We would also like to thank the Northern Star for covering our Green Grill unveiling and we plan to utilize some of the suggestions we received to continue modifying the grill and unveiling the results during the spring 2009 semester.
