M. Night Shyamalan has potential for career-turning project

By KYLE SPENCER

It has been a tough road for writer/director M. Night Shyamalan, but his next project has the potential to be huge.

The 2000 film “Unbreakable,” starring Bruce Willis as a man who realizes he has superhuman powers, wasn’t received very well at the box office, but has since made a killing in DVD sales.

Night claims that he is finally open to the idea of a sequel for the film and he has begun jotting down ideas and speaking with actors about reprising their roles.

Night admitted in a recent interview that he had left out several deleted scenes from the movie and DVD that left the film with a more open ended feeling, but he would still like to explore Bruce’s powers a little more.

As comic book themed films become more and more widely accepted in theaters by the general public, it seems as though Night was simply ahead of the game when he created “Unbreakable.”

Now, in our present society, it looks as if people just can’t get enough of this booming genre of film. I have to say that I wouldn’t mind seeing this film made.

I’m sure for everyone that says that, you can find five other people to disagree, but it was truly the only M. Night Shyamalan film with a story that could carry on into a sequel.

With recent failures such as “Lady in the Water” and “The Happening,” it’s a pretty good bet that this film will be made as Night scrambles to find something to redeem his career.
