Lukulo's offers filling meals at affordable price

With midterms here and finals approaching, Lukulo’s Restaurant, 1101 W. Lincoln Highway, has the perfect menu for those late-night cram sessions. Located conveniently close to campus, the restaurant is within walking distance from any dorm.

Atmosphere:
Although Lukulo’s delivers straight to the dorms, the option of gathering a small group of friends to dine in is also available. With pictures of movie stars on the walls, warm lighting and clean diner booths, the atmosphere is inviting for a quick study group or awkward first date. The ambience has more of a casual feel rather than romantic, which makes the restaurant more inviting for students to come in and relax.

Service:
Lukulo’s offers the option for the customer to order ahead of time or place an order upon entering the restaurant. The staff always greets its customers with a smile, offers the specials list (including lower prices) and informs the customers of how long the wait for the food will be. On weekdays, the wait is about 10 minutes, depending on the order, but on Thursdays it can get quite busy. Be sure to either go early or place an order an hour in advance.

Food:
Having stepped above and beyond a delivery restaurant, Lukulo’s offers a wide variety of menu choices from all-day breakfast to soups, sandwiches and of course, the classic hamburger. The omelettes are to die for, the spaghetti tastes like it’s straight from Italy and the famous pizza nuggets (bread nuggets with marinara sauce and cheese) keep the mouth watering.

Price:
Certainly, Lukulo’s is not stingy on food. The portion sizes are large, and the prices are appropriate for the college student’s budget. A deluxe order cheeseburger, which comes with soup, french fries or potato salad, and bottled water or a soft drink, is only $7.09. Pizza is the most expensive item on the menu at $15.99 for a large pizza, but the price does not change for the seven different varieties of specialty pizzas.

Overall:
If you are low on cash, walk to Lukulo’s for a filling meal at an affordable price.

A few years ago, I kind of boycotted Lukulos for its policies on charging for cups of ice water and refills on drinks. Then…they came out with the "Deluxe Value Meals"…and my life has never been the same. Thank you Lukulos!

The reporter on this story needs to get out of the dorms more, because Lukulos is about one step above food served to farm animals. Or, maybe that's just evidence of how terrible the dorm food is... Go to Taco Bell if you are hungry, broke, and still have functional taste buds.

Taco Bell coming up in a discussion about good food? That's a first.
