NIU women’s soccer takes a road trip east this Homecoming weekend to continue MAC play.

The Huskies (7-3-4 overall, 3-2-1 MAC) face Buffalo today at 6 p.m. and head to Kent State for a 12 p.m. match Sunday. NIU is coming off a weekend in which it posted a pair of victories over Ohio and Akron.

“It’s great to have two wins at home because that momentum helps us for the games this weekend,” said NIU head coach Carrie Barker.

Lindsey Bailey leads Buffalo (4-5-4, 0-4-2) with seven goals and three assists, which is tied for second in the MAC. Goalkeeper Amy Coron ranks third in the MAC with 72 saves.

KSU (5-8, 2-4) is led by Caitlin Hester. The senior has three goals and five assists for the Golden Flashes.

Hitting the road for the second time in MAC play will not prove to be easy for NIU.

“We hope to have fun while we play and hopefully get a win out of it,” said senior Jestina Orlando. “We just have to stay positive and take it one game at a time.”

Senior Thea Johnson and sophomore Becca Ford both lead the Huskies with four goals in 2008. Johnson also has four assists on the year. However, a total team effort will be necessary on the road.

“We don’t want just 11 girls on the field trying to win,” Orlando said. “We want all 22 of us playing to win. It takes a whole team effort.”
