Screams of Winter, along with Another Hero Dies, Fighting the Waves and Minarette performed at The House Café, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, Sunday night.

Winter, the headliner, filled The House with heavy screams and growls which mimicked a metal sound from the ’80s . Synthesizers and keyboards gave uniqueness to its mostly instrumental sound.

Although Screams of Winter’s stage presence was great, the music overpowered the lyrics. The band also carried a very repetitive sound that lacked interest. Screams of Winter was successfully able to draw a good-sized crowd who seemed to be rocking out as hard as the band.

Progressive/metal band, Another Hero Dies, ignited its set with rapid drums, thrashing guitar and crisp, heaving screams from the two vocalists. The duo worked well together and played off each other while on-stage to a cue.

Another Hero Dies was highly energetic on stage and encouraged crowd participation, which was reciprocated by the audience without a second thought. The band’s sound could be compared to Atreyu, both musically and vocally.

Fronted by a female vocalist, indie rock band Fighting the Waves rocked the stage with mid-range, soulful vocals, heavy guitar and an excitable stage presence.

Waves’ songs had a fast tempo and packed with pulsating guitar riffs. Toward the end of its set, Waves performed a more rock version of “Stand By Me.”

Minarette, another indie rock band, held an extremely full, encompassing sound that was filled with syncopated guitar and melodic verses with screaming incorporated into the chorus. Steady percussion and majestic chords drove the band through their set and the audience was equally impressed.
