As you no doubt are aware by now, my son, Josh, is running as the Democratic nominee for Circuit Clerk. Josh is indeed a person of integrity who is running for all the right reasons. He definitely has the technological and people skills that the office demands. He is opposing the 24-year, well-funded Republican incumbent that you all have dealt with over the years. The office is a clerical one that has grown in influence far beyond its statutory function. Frankly put, it is time for a change.
It is unhealthy in our democracy for the same person to hold an office 24 years without any significant opposition. Even George Washington realized this in the early days of our republic when he refused to be nominated for a third term. It is especially true in an office that would have benefited by keeping current with the latest technology. Instead of accepting a greater than 24 percent raise in pay, those resources could have been spent by the clerk to further modernize the office.
The criteria for employment in the clerk’s office should not be who you know but on how your skills can improve the functions of the office. The clerk’s office is not one that should be used to affect the direction or the election of the judiciary. It should be used to better allow the judiciary to deliver the justice you and your clients all seek.
No matter what your party affiliation, I would ask you to consider Josh Boies’ candidacy for the office of Circuit Clerk. Party affiliation as you know in our current county office holders is somewhat blurred. I am asking on Josh’s behalf for your support in the upcoming election. If you are willing to offer your participatory or financial support, it would be welcomed. Contact Josh at his web site www.jb4cc.com or call me at 815-895-9703 to find out how you can help.
John H. Boies,
graduate
