SPOILER ALERT: *Please note this blog is about a major plot spoiler*

A few weeks ago I got in to a debate about the major mood-altering scene in “Burn After Reading.” If you haven’t seen the movie, you should stop reading now because this entire blog is about the film’s plot twist.

About two-thirds of the way through the movie, Brad Pitt’s character breaks in to house, hides in a closet and manages to get shot in the head by George Clooney’s character after surprising him. The entire theater responded in a silent awe.

In my humble opinion, that scene might be the most unexpected moment in any movie made in the past 10 years. The scene is so strong that it put the people I debated with in an interesting disposition. They thought the movie was very good, but they didn’t like it.

Pitt’s character is one of only two upbeat and kind-hearted characters in the entire movie. The audience can easily get attached to Pitt’s character and his death feels completely senseless and unresolved by the end of the movie.

Despite the sick feeling in my stomach from the scene, I really enjoyed “Burn After Reading.” However, I’m completely able to understand why someone wouldn’t like the movie because of the scene. I’d still recommend the movie with the precaution that you’re going to have a very uneasy reaction at some point in the flick.
