Democrats begin march toward bigger majority

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Democrats have defeated GOP Rep. Tom Feeney of Florida as they push toward big gains in their House majority.

Democrat Suzanne Kosmas, a former state legislator unseated Feeney, who had been under fire for his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Another GOP Floridian, Rep. Ric Keller, appeared headed for defeat as well on Tuesday.

Democrats have re-elected first-term incumbents once expected to be at risk and were on track for the party's first back-to-back waves to bigger congressional margins in more than 75 years.

In early returns, Democrats were leading in races to topple 10 Republicans and capture three open seats where GOP lawmakers retired, while Republicans were ahead in just two races to unseat Democratic incumbents.
