The 70th district was won by Republican candidate Robert Pritchard.

Defeating Green party candidate James Dusing, Pritchard won about 74.84 percent of the vote.

“Citzens are looking for change,” Pritchard said. “A lot has been focused on the national level, but also on the local level as well.”

Pritchard was disappointed in the results for the DeKalb County Board, but was encouraged by the effort each candidate put into their campaigns.

“A lot of good candidates put a lot of effort into this election year,” Prithard said. “And I hope they won’t quit.”

Pritchard said DeKalb elects both Republicans and Democrats, and that it is important to stay in touch with the voters.

When it came to the presidential election, Obama had been favored, Pritchard said, but he was excited to see the voter turnout by students.

“It’s exciting to see that young people are engaged,” Pritchard said. “I hope what we’ve seen in tonight’s election continues.”

Pritchard said it is politicians’ responsibility to keep younger voters involved in the political process.

“We need to keep them in government and keep the country headed in the right direction,” he said.
