McDonald’s raises prices on dollar menu items like double cheeseburgers

The dollar menu is not just a dollar anymore.

Fast food restaurants, such as McDonald’s, have joined the many other businesses that have had to increase prices.

McDonald’s, 805 W. Lincoln Highway, has double cheeseburgers for $1.19 and McChicken sandwiches for $1.29, which has increased from the original price of a dollar.

Senior psychology major Mike Sheehan said he noticed a change in the dollar menu when he was last at McDonald’s.

“I noticed about 20 cents or so added to a few items from the dollar menu,” Sheehan said. “Everything else is going up, so this doesn’t surprise me.”

Sheehan said the increase does not have him worried.

“The price change doesn’t affect me,” he said. “As long as non-fast-food restaurants aren’t affected, I’m not too concerned as of now.”

Junior economics major Justin McMillen said the change in price is not a big deal to him.

“I saw that a double cheeseburger had cost 20 cents more,” McMillen said.

McMillen said he does not find himself affected by the rise in prices.

“It doesn’t really matter to me since it’s not much of raise,” he said.

Economics professor Khan Mohabbat said the rising prices of various resources are the reason why fast food restaurants are raising their prices as well.

“The prices of corn and wheat have gone up this year,” Mohabbat said. “And when these prices go up it causes fast food prices to go up also.”

Mohabbat said fast food restaurants have to react to the economic situation.

“The cost of fast food going up is a response to inflation being high,” Mohabbat said.

The McDonald’s Corporation Media Relations referred questions locally.

The local business was unable to comment on the price changes.

If there are no more dollar itemsat Mickey D's, millions of people will have to think twice before they order. What's next? The end of dollar stores? Please President Obama, force McDonald's to retain a dollar menu.
